Here Lie Our Bodily Relics
This is a moving image audiovisual piece of a sculptural landscape created with sand, plaster, jesmonite, jesmonite pigment, rock salt, water and the resulting crystallization. Through material and form I explore the parts of ourself that we may discard, hide or forget, and compare this with the life cycle of seaweed, and the ocean. In parallel, a speculative world emerges of post-human traces and undiscovered corners of the universe.
I queered the experimental making process through resisting hard boundaries and controls, allowing for organic, biomorphic forms to emerge. The result is a seascape of abstract bodily forms that are textured and layered like rock, coral or fossil. This artwork continued to grow by itself through the formation of rock salt crystals, opening up a dialogue between myself the human maker, and the earth through materials.
